IJESA COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT ASSEMBLY HANDS OVER 1 BILLION NAIRA IJESALAND GERIATRIC CENTRE TO OAUTHC


 Ijesaland Geriatric Centre  has attended  to over  one thousand patients within the first three months of its existence. 

 

This is disclosed by the chairman of  the Ijesa Health is Wealth Project Management Team, Asiwaju Yinka Fasuyi during the formal handing over of the multimillion naira project on behalf of the Ijesa Community Development Assembly to the management of the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex ,OAUTH.

 

 Giving the breakdown of the outpatients record, Asiwaju Fasuyi noted that 286 patients were attended to in April 2022, the first month after commissioning; 390 patients in May 2022; and almost 500 elderly people enjoyed the facility in June 2022.

"Within the three months, this facility had been immediately deployed to provide medical health services to our teeming elderly in the society. I would like to commend and appreciate the Board, Management, and Staff of Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC) for swiftly fulfilling the charge of commencing operations from the Project Commissioning date which we gave to them during our joint meeting of Friday, 19th March 2021, and thereby delivering this rare feat, very unlike most projects commissioned in Nigeria, hitting the ground running." He said.

The Asiwaju of Ijesaland  urged the Board and Management of OAUTHC to  urgently ensure full deployment of all the equipment procured for the centre, redeploy more doctors and nurses to the IGC to cater for more patients.

 He also pleaded that consideration should be given to personnel of Ijesaland extraction in the recruitment and deployment of Staff to the centre and ensure that the health care service is open to the beneficiaries 24/7, as well as,  training and retraining for staff On regular basis.

 

Commending the exemplary display of strong will by the people of Ijesaland to   conceive construct, equip and satisfactorily deliver the second but biggest Geriatric Hospital in Nigeria in Ijesaland, the Chairman of the Board of Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC), Alhaji Shehu Ningi who led other Board Members; Top Management; and Staff of OAUTHC to the historical event , stated that the gesture was second to none in Nigeria.

 

Earlier in his welcome address the OAUTHC Acting CMD, Professor Muyiwa Owojuyigbe appreciated the resoluteness of eminent Ijesa people to dip into their hard earnings and collectively finance the unprecedented massive project, describing it as the most significant community-sponsored project in Nigeria, which he said would not have been possible without the unparalleled sense of togetherness.

“I want to heartily appreciate Asiwaju Yinka Fasuyi for his leadership, the Project Management Team (PMT) for prioritizing the good health of the Ijesa people through the 2021 Health is Wealth project, the Project Monitoring and Evaluation Committee (PMEC) and the Project Technical Advisory Committee (PTAC) for their expertise and professional guidance. We really cannot thank you enough.

Again, we are grateful to the experts that would be serving on the Advisory Committee for the sustenance of this project. We pray that God grant you the wisdom to proffer the processes that would engender the sustainability of this project”, he said

 Highlights of  the well attended epoch event were the formal signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the operations of Ijesaland Geriatric Centre; inauguration of the 7-Man Advisory Committee; and the formal presentation of the IGC Assets Register to the OAUTHC.

 

At the completion of the project, the Management Teams are leaving behind a  sum of *N109,344,878:00 (ONE HUNDRED AND NINE MILLION, THREE HUNDRED AND FORTY-FOUR THOUSAND, EIGHT HUNDRED AND SEVENTY-EIGHT NAIRA ONLY).

INEC INTENSIFIES EFFORTS AT TACKLING FAKE NEWS AHEAD OF OSUN ELECTIONw



Sixteen days to Osun Governorship poll, Election Observers have been enjoined to ensure that the proceedings of the Election is in line with electoral guidelines  as stipulated in the constitution of Nigeria. 

The Head of Department ,Election and Party Monitoring (EPM) INEC, Osun State, Alhaji Shehu Muhammed made the call during a sensitization meeting with some stakeholders in Osogbo. 

Alhaji Muhammed explained that the Local and Foreign Observers should embrace objectivity and give accurate report of the Election to the commission. 

He emphasized that the commission welcomed constructive criticisms,  promising that no stone would be left unturned in the effort  to ensure that the electorates were not misinformed by rumour mongers and sensational journalists.

Responding to question on the level  of  security agencies'  preparedness for the election, the Deputy Director,Civil Society Organization ,CSOs, INEC, Abuja, Ndidi Okafor urged eligible voters to go to the polling units with their valid Permanent Voter's Card without fear noting that Security operatives  understood the tenant of democracy.

In separate interviews,Two Participants, The Amirah, Fomwan, Osun, Alhaja Sadiat Oladapo and the General secretary of  the Joint National Association of Persons with Disability , Osun State, Mr. Aghanti Smith said INEC had shown an high level of preparedness towards 16th July governorship Election. 

They also urged the Media to verify facts before disseminating information to members of the Public so as not to heat up the polity.

BRITISH HIGH COMMISSION PLEDGES COMMITMENT TO PEACEFUL ELECTION IN OSUN W.


The British High Commission has expressed its readiness to support all efforts geared towards ensuring a credible governorship election in Osun state next month.

Political adviser to the commission in Nigeria, Mr Wale Adebajo stated this during a visit of the commision's team to governnor Oyetola in Osogbo.

Mr Adebajo who said the commision.would be joining other international organizations to monitor the election urged political parties to toll the path of peace before, during and after the election.

While responding, Governor Adegboyega Oyetola expressed his commitment to ensuring peace throughout the electioneering in spite of the provocation in some quarters.

In his remark, APC national secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore gave an assurance that the party and its members would be of good conducts in the pursuance of the election victory

Ekiti NSCDC Nabs Student For Alleged Rape



The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC Ekiti State Command has arrested a student of Are/Afao Comprehensive College in Irepodun/Ifelodun local government for allegedly raping two girls at a time.

According to reports, the male student threatened the girls with axe before performing the act but evaded arrest.

According to spokesperson for the NSCDC in the state, Tolu Afolabi the suspect was arrested by the Counter Terrorism Unit of the command.

He said investigation had commenced.

UNKNOWN GUNMEN IN MILITARY UNIFORMS ATTACK A PHARMACIST IN ILESA DESTROY PROPERTY.


The Ibala road, Ilesa  residence of the Immediate past chairman of Pharmaceutical society of Nigeria (PSN) Osun state, mr Kayode Adetona was besieged by unknown gunmen in the wee hours of today.
The armed  men wearing Nigerian army’s camouflage uniform numbering about 8  who came in a white Hilux van left a tale of horror at the expiration of their operation which lasted about 1 hour.
Narrating his ordeal , mr Kayode Adetona said  the armed men who broke into his apartment in a commando like manner left when their leader told them he was not the target.
Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of Osun state Police Command, mrs Yemisi Opalola confirms the incident, saying the state CID has commenced investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack.
 Among the property vandalized were a Mazda MPV car and a Toyota Corolla car while the windows of the building were squashed.



Reports says no life was lost during the siege.

The President Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Thursday in Kano, said his government would deal with those profiting from the climate of fear and rampant insecurity nationwide.

 

The President urged new and existing officers of the Nigeria Police Force to rise to the occasion of defending the country against elements who are determined to keep citizens in perpetual fear.

 

Speaking at the Passing Out Parade of the Regular Course 4/2016 Cadets of the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano, President Buhari said his government is working within its available resources to place the Nigerian Police Force “amongst the most efficient security organisations in the world.

The House of Representatives has called on the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to ensure timely release of the passengers of the Abuja-Kaduna train abducted by terrorists.

 

The chamber specifically urged him to “expedite action to secure the release of the remaining 51 Nigerians kidnapped in the Abuja-Kaduna train attack and all other Nigerians held hostage by bandits and terrorists across the country.”

 

In addition, the parliament urged the Federal Government to set up a high-powered inter-agency panel to coordinate efforts and ensure the release of abductees across the country, as well as assist their families.

Femi Gbajabiamila, speaker of the house of representatives, has asked the committee on police affairs to work towards the rehabilitation of police stations across the country.

 

Gbajabiamila mandated the committee to include funds for the renovation of police stations in the 2023 budget.

 

The speaker gave the directive on Thursday while speaking on a motion sponsored by Manu Soro, a lawmaker from Bauchi.

 

While moving his motion, Soro had called for the rehabilitation of police and Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps’ stations in Darazo/Ganjuwa federal constituency of Bauchi state.

Gani Adams, the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, has asked the United Nations (UN) to intervene in Nigeria’s security challenges.

 

In a letter titled, ‘Avoiding a Replica of the Bosnian War in Nigeria’, and addressed to Antonio Guterres, UN secretary-general, Adams said insecurity in Nigeria could have a significant impact on Africa if nothing urgent is done to address it.

 

The letter was also addressed to the African Union (AU), United States (US), the International Association for Religious Freedom, United Kingdom, Council on Foreign Relations and other international organisations.

Mr. Ibrahim Lawal, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the detained member of the House of Representatives, Farah Dagogo, has cried out over the continued incarceration of his principal.

 

Lawal, in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Thursday, said Dagogo, who was a governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party, was illegally kept in prison after he was “unlawfully declared wanted by Governor Nyesom Wike.”

 

The statement, which carried hashtags, was titled, ‘##50Days Still In Incarceration; Farah Dagogo Is Innocent; #God Over Everything.’

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Atiku Abubakar, has donated N10million for the treatment of the victims of the June 5, 2022 terror attack on St Francis Catholic, Owa-luwa Street, Owo, Ondo State.

 

Atiku, who paid a condolence visit to Owo Kingdom, condemned the killing of the armless worshipers.

 

Atiku was represented by the State PDP candidate in the last governorship election, Eyitayo Jegede (SAN) and members of the State Working Committee of the party.

Ibikunle Amosun, former governor of Ogun, says he decided to withdraw from contesting the presidency in the interest of promoting the interest of the south-west.

 

Amosun spoke on Thursday at a rally organised in Abeokuta, the Ogun capital.

 

The rally, which featured supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was to “welcome Amosun home” after his participation in the presidential primary, and to mobilise support for Bola Tinubu, the party’s candidate.

The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and CEO of Roots TV, Dumebi Kachikwu, has described the news making the rounds that his wife pleaded with him to bribe delegates in the just-concluded presidential primary of the party to avoid disgrace, as fake and malicious.

 

He described the news published in a national daily (not LEADERSHIP) as the height of mischief.

 

In a statement made available to LEADERSHIP on Thursday in Abuja, Kachikwu said during the party’s convention, his wife did not at any time beg him to bribe delegates in order to win.

 

According to him, “My attention has been drawn to a misleading and mischievous headline claiming that I said that my wife begged me to bribe delegates. This is not true at all. That twelve media houses were represented in the parley where I said that my wife pleaded with me not to be disgraced seeing that some aspirants were sharing money during the ADC convention.

The lawmaker who displayed the screenshot of his monthly salary on Television program did not provide evidence for allowances and constituency projects.

 

Nigerian Senators and House of Assembly members are believed to be one of the highest paid lawmakers in the world despite widespread poverty among the general population.

 

Abejide said being a lawmaker was not lucrative as his constituents expect him to provide for their special needs.

The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, PFN, has declared Operation Show your Permanent Voter’s Card PVCs,among Nigeria Christians even as it urged them to go to church with the card on Sunday, June 26, 2022.

 

Addressing journalists on Thursday, at Bishops’ Court, PFN National Secretariat, Isolo Lagos, the National President, Bishop Francis Wale Oke, said this is one of its strategies to change bad governance in Nigeria.

 

According to him, Christians will no longer fold their arms in terms of the affairs that concern them, “we have set aside Sunday, June 26, to encourage Christians regardless of their denominations to show their PVCs or ensure they get one because we are prepared to change the narrative,”

The Nigerian Army on Thursday announced that its troops had found another Chibok girl abducted by the Boko Haram insurgent on April 14, 2014.

 

The Army said its troops found the girl, whose name was given as Hauwa Joseph, along with her baby during clearance operations conducted by the troops.

 

According to the Nigerian Army on its Twitter handle on Thursday, the girl and the baby have been taken to a military medical facility for medical attention.

Godwin Emefiele, governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has asked the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) and the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) to collaborate on the creation of a dedicated route for non-oil exports.

 

He said this on Thursday at the apex bank’s RT 200 non-oil export summit held in Lagos.

 

The theme of the event was ‘Setting the roadmap toward achieving RT200 and non-oil export for development’.

 

Emefiele said due to unnecessary delays at Nigerian ports, some of the country’s exporters have opted to take their goods to neighboring countries such as Accra and Benin Republic.

The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Usman Alkali Baba has warned troublemakers, vote buyers and others to steer clear of Ekiti State gubernatorial election scheduled for this Saturday.

 

The IG stated this during a stakeholders’ meeting with the governorship candidates, political parties in Ekiti State ahead of Saturday’s poll.

 

He further charged the police officers and the personnel of other security agencies participating in the poll to be professional and apolitical during the discharge of their duties.

 

The police boss further reiterated that the force is working in collaboration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in creating a conducive and enabling environment that will guarantee the peaceful conduct of elections in the country.

The Federal High Court, on Thursday, debunked report that it issued an order that disqualified the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the impending governorship election in Ekiti State, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji.

 

The court, in a statement that was signed by its Assistant Director, Information, Mrs. Catherine Oby Christopher, described the report circulating online, which claimed that Oyebanji was disqualified barely 48 hours to the gubernatorial contest, as “unfounded and very mischievous”.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the distribution of sensitive materials across Ekiti State area councils ahead of the Saturday gubernatorial polls in the state.

electoral officers for the 16 local government areas of the state were escorted by security agents on Thursday for safe delivery of the sensitive materials as electorates anticipate the commencement of the polls to elect another leader.

 

The materials were distributed at the INEC state office in Ado-Ekiti in the presence of journalists and party representatives.

The commanders of the South-West Security Network, also known as Amotekun Corps, have declared their commitment to ensuring adequate protection of the lives and properties of the people within the region.

 

The commanders say they will synergise towards ensuring that a repeat of the attack on St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, where several worshippers were killed, does not happen again.

The Delta State Government has presented a cheque of N2 million, a plaque and a letter of commendation to, a tanker driver, Ejiro Otarigho, for his display of heroism and humanity.

 

Otarigho had driven a burning tanker away to a safe place where it exploded into an inferno last Saturday in the state.

 

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Chief Patrick Ukah, made the presentation to Otarigho in Asaba on Thursday.

 

He said, “We commended him for the rare display of patriotism, humanity, bravery and heroism, the incident would have resulted in the death of many persons and destruction of property at Agbarho in Ughelli North Local Government Area where the fire started.

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos, says the decision to ban commercial motorcycles locally known as ‘Okada’ in the state was not easy while seeking re-election.

 

The governor said this on Thursday at the maiden summit on non-oil exports organised by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in collaboration with the Bankers’ committee in Lagos.

 

Sanwo-Olu said it was not an easy decision to have the policy of banning okadas during a period when he is seeking to be re-elected.

 

While explaining the purpose of the ban, he said such a critical decision was only made for the best of the people and not a political action.

The Anambra State Police Operatives have arrested a 34-year-old man, Mr Onwele Anayo, for allegedly killing a three-year-old child.

 

Anambra State Police command’s spokesperson, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga, who disclosed this to DAILY POST, said the incident happened at Hillview Estate, Nkwelle -Ezunaka, near Onitsha.

 

Ikenga said: “Today 16/6/2022 police operatives arrested one Mr Onwele Anayo ‘M’ aged 34 years on the murder of Divine Eze ‘M’ aged 3 years.

 

“The suspect (Mr Anayo) took the child (Divine) as he was sleeping and killed him, by hitting him on the floor several times. Mr Anayo carried a knife from the room, pursued the father around the house, threatening to kill him.

An 88-year-old woman, Tawakalitu Ilumooka, Thursday, told an Ikeja Special Offences Court how a pastor, Ayodeji Olorunfemi, allegedly defrauded her of N36.5 million.

 

Mrs Ilumooka testified that the pastor took her to a river goddess (Olookun) for fake hard currency.

 

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Mr Olorunfemi is standing trial on a three-count charge bordering on obtaining money under false pretences and stealing.

 

He is being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

 

On Thursday, Mrs Ilumooka, led in evidence by EFCC counsel, Ahmed Yerima, said the pastor took her to Olookun on the pretext that the river goddess had blessed her with a box containing dollars and pounds sterling.

Soyoya, said on 9/06/2022, one Bala Usman of Tella town in Gossol LGA who armed himself with a pistol scorpion loaded with seven rounds of live ammunition,  went to the house of one Usman Yaki of Gunduma village via Mutum Biyu town and attempted to kill him.

 

He noted that the suspect fired one round of ammunition, and the police were alerted in collaboration with the vigilante and he was subdued and arrested.

“The commission has observed a worrying pattern of cold complicity by hospitality entrepreneurs who appear to be hands-in-gloves with suspected fraudsters by housing them over long spells and making internet facilities available to them,” he disclosed.

OYETOLA TAKES CAMPAIGN TRAIN TO IWO AND EJIGBO



Osun state  governor, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola says his administration  will continue its  developmental projects across the state to the last minutes of his official 4 year-tenure.

ALL Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate Bola Tinubu has said he will pick a Northern Christian as his running mate.

 

Tinubu was reacting to speculations that he will pick a Muslim as his running mate for the 2023 presidential election.

 

 

The APC presidential candidate said those behind the Muslim-Muslim ticket rumour are undemocratic elements who are threatened by his imminent victory in the coming presidential elections.

The Northern Inter-Tribal and Inter-Religion Alliance for Peace, Unity and Development on Wednesday called on the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, to douse the tension of a Muslim-Muslim ticket by adopting the Executive Secretary of Nigeria Christian Pilgrim Commission, Rev. Yakubu Pam, as running mate.

 

The appeal comes less than 48 hours before the deadline set by the Independent National Electoral Commission for political parties to submit the names of their vice presidential candidates.

 

The temptation of fielding a Muslim-Muslim ticket has seemingly unsettled the ruling APC and got their supporters divided.

A Northern group, the Arewa Youth Awareness Forum, on Wednesday, asked the Prof. Ishaq Akintola – led Muslim Rights Concern, and the Christian Association of Nigeria, to consider floating political parties instead of dictating to the two major political parties – the Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress, over choices of presidential running mates.

 

AYAF expressed concern over the two religious bodies’ interference in the affairs of the APC and the PDP.

 

This was just as the group said the choice of Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, had demonstrated the determination of the PDP flagbearer, Atiku Abubakar, to win the 2023 presidential race through strategic nationwide mobilisation for votes.

The national working committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has set up a committee to screen the vice-presidential candidate of the party for the 2023 elections.

 

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Debo Ologunagba, PDP spokesperson, said the screening of the candidate will take place at the party’s headquarters.

 

Tom Ikimi, former minister of foreign affairs, is the chairman of the committee, while Akilu Indabawa, will serve as the secretary.

Kogi Governor, Yahaya Bello has said he would re-contest for the presidency in the near future

 

Bello, who was one of the 23 presidential aspirants of the ruling All Progressives Congress’ (APC), disclosed this to State House Correspondents after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari.

 

According to him, he joined the contest for the APC presidential ticket to “test the mike,” saying that his next attempt would be “supersonic.

Rep. Ben Igbakpa (PDP-Delta) has moved a constitutional point of order, urging the House to override President Muhammadu Buhari’s veto over the delay on 2022 Electoral Amendment Act’s section 84 (8).

 

Igbakpa proposed the resolution during a plenary session in Abuja on Wednesday, citing a matter of national importance.

 

The Electoral Amendment Act was recently changed by both chambers of the National Assembly, and the parliamentarians returned it for the President’s assent after amending section 84 (8).

 

The purpose of the clause was to enable statutory delegates vote in political party primaries.

The House of Representatives has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC), to extend the voter registration deadline by an extra 60 days from June 30, 2022, to enable as many Nigerians as possible to register.

 

The Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise is scheduled to end on June 30.

 

This followed the adoption of a motion by Rep. Benjamin Kalu, (APC-Abia), during plenary on Wednesday in Abuja.

 

Kalu noted that the ongoing Continuous Voters Registration, (CVR), by INEC was scheduled to end on June 30th ahead of the 2023 General Elections.

A bill which seeks to provide a framework for education financing through the establishment of the National Student Financial Aid Scheme, Wednesday, scaled the second reading at the Senate.

 

The bill, which was sponsored by Senator Umar Sulieman representing Kwara North Senatorial District, seeks to grant interest-free loans and bursaries to eligible students in tertiary institutions.

 

Suleiman added that the scheme would also ensure the well-structured administration of such loans and bursaries and their recovery.

 

This was contained in a statement signed by the Special Assistant to the Senate President, Dr Ezrel Tabiowo, on Wednesday.

Mr Sanusi Garba, Chairman, Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), says Nigerians will witness improved power supply from July 1 following renewed efforts by industry stakeholders.

 

Garba gave the assurance at an interactive session with newsmen after the Second Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) meeting on Wednesday in Lagos.

The Executive Secretary, National Human Rights Commission, Tony Ojukwu (SAN), has assured the Nigeria Police Force that the Federal Government will continue to provide the necessary budgetary allocations to enhance the welfare of police personnel across the country.

 

Ojukwu, who was represented by the Director, Civil and Political Rights, Abdulraham Yakubu, said this while speaking to newsmen in Port Harcourt during a two-day training organised for police personnel in the South-South geo-political zone.

 

The training, which was themed ‘mainstreaming Human Rights into law enforcement in Nigeria,’ was supported by the Macarthur Foundation.

 

Yakubu said the training was to ensure that policemen respected the rights of members of the public while carrying out their duties.

 

++++The South West zone of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) on Wednesday said, it may direct its members in the zone to increase the pump prices of Premium Motor Spirit (P.M.S), as well as the A.G.O popularly called Diesel should the appropriate federal government’s regulatory agency fails to address the continuous non -supply of the products to its members.

 

IPMAN’s Zonal Chairman, Alhaji Dele Tajudeen, who made the disclosure while addressing journalists in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, said his members had for the past six months, not been able to access supplies of the products from any of the six government’s owned depots, but resorted to making purchase from the private depot owners, who had continued to exploit the situation to put extra cost on his members.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Osun, on Wednesday, said it had 333,179 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in the state ready for collection.

 

Prof. Abdulganiyu Raji, INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Osun, made this known in Osogbo, at a workshop organised for journalists and information officers by the Osun State Government and KA Media Consultants.

 

Raji, represented by INEC Head of Department, Election and Party Monitoring,

 

Alhaji Shehu Muhammad, explained further that the PVCs were printed after the completion of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in March.

A former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Osun,  Mr Kolapo Alimi, on Wednesday, defected to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

 

Alimi, one of staunch the supporters of the Minister of Interior and former governor of the state, Mr Rauf Aregbesola, announced his defection at the PDP secretariat in Osogbo.

 

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Alimi, a lawyer, served as a two-term commissioner during Aregbesola’s administration as governor of the state.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), governorship candidate in Osun state, Senator Ademola Adeleke has disclosed that the amended electoral law has made it impossible for anybody to steal his votes in the coming July 16 poll in the state.

 

Adeleke spoke after receiving the former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs under Governor Rauf Aregbesola in the state, Mr Kolapo Alimi and his supporters into the PDP at the state party secretariat in Osogbo on Wednesday.

 

He said the electoral act signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari has made rigging of election impossible, hence, assured the masses of his victory in the forthcoming election, adding that unlike in 2018, the poll in July will be a straight victory for the party.

The Police Service Commission has dispatched a team of its senior staff to Ekiti State to monitor Police Officers on election duties during the Governorship elections in the State holding this Saturday, June, 18th 2022.

 

Commission’s staff will be in the 16 Local Government Areas of the State.

 

The Commission has the Constitutional responsibility to appoint, promote, dismiss and exercise disciplinary control over Officers of the Force except the Inspector General of Police.

 

The Nigeria Police Force as the lead Agency in Internal security, including security during elections is expected by the conduct of it’s Officers to play a major role in the success or failure of the election.

The Commandant General, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ahmed Abubakar Audi, on Wednesday, charged all the personnel deployed to Ekiti gubernatorial election slated for June 18, 2022 election to be professional in their conducts by allowing the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) of the Corps to guide their performances.

Following the tragic attack on Saint Francis Catholic Church in Owo on June 5, worshipers of the ‘god of iron’ in the town have vowed to perform open rituals against the gunmen behind the dastardly act.

The Oyo State House of Assembly on Wednesday threatened to impeach the state Deputy Governor, Rauf Olaniyan, after levelling five allegations against him.

 

About 24 lawmakers signed the petition, which was read during the plenary.

 

In the petition, entitled: “Petition and Notice of Allegations against the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency, Engineer Rauf Olaniyan,” he was accused of gross misconduct, abuse of office, financial recklessness, abandonment of office and official duties, and insubordination.

Kelvin Ebiri, the Media Aide to the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has declared that Wike will never leave the Peoples Democratic Party. He said a viral video suggesting that he (Wike) was threatening to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress was manipulated.

 

In a statement issued on Wednesday night, Ebiri said the video being circulated was intended to mislead members of the public.

 

Ebiri said the video was an excerpt of an old interview the governor granted to a popular television station while reacting to the defection of the Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi, from the PDP to the APC.

A governorship aspirant under the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State, Bernard Mikko, has filed a lawsuit against the governorship candidate of the party, Patrick Tonye-Cole, the APC and Independent National Electoral Commission, challenging the just-concluded party’s primaries in the state.

 

Mikko in an originating summon brought before a Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt is asking the court to determine whether in regulations by INEC, in conduct of party primaries, the APC is mandated to conduct its primaries in face of alleged illegalities pertaining the conduct of APC primaries.

 

Mikko is also seeking the court to determine whether Tonye-Cole is qualified to contest for the governorship position despite the alleged report of fraud contained in a white paper released by Justice George Omeriji led panel of inquiry set up by governor Nyesom Wike.

The Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has barred teachers who scored below 50 per cent in a Computer Based Test conducted for them from being recruited into the state’s school system.

 

No fewer than 31,000 teachers sat for the CBT on Saturday across the state in batches, out of which 5,000 will be employed by the state government.

 

Those who made multiple entries for the purpose of the test were disqualified in line with the earlier warning.

Kano state House of Assembly has given a nod to Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje’s request to secure a N10 billion loan for the purchase and installation of CCTV Cameras and optic cyber in strategic places within the state metropolis.

 

The project will also encompass headquarters of the Bichi, Rano,  Karaye and Gaya Emirates.

The Federal Government has approved the establishment of e-learning centres for primary schools across the 36 States of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

 

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, disclosed this to State House correspondents on Wednesday, after the weekly federal executive council (FEC) meeting, presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa.

 

Fielding questions on why the government approved the establishment of e-learning centres, but was unable to resolve problems with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and other three university-based unions in public universities for the students to go back to school, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, who briefed journalists on behalf of the Minister of Education, said the issue with the unions was not as simple as many many think.

The Senate on Wednesday moved to entrench technical education in the country by setting in motion machinery for the creation of the Federal University of Education (Technical) in Bichi, Kano State.

 

The Senate’s move followed a motion by Senator Jibrin Barau (APC Kano North) which passed for second reading at plenary.

++++Vanguard:Hoodlums storm Uniosun teaching hospital to retrieve colleague’s corpse

 

Some hoodlums on Wednesday invaded the Osun state University Teaching Hospital in Osogbo to retrieve the body of a colleague that died in the hospital.

 

The hoodlums had on Tuesday afternoon engaged in a fight at Asoje area of the state capital leading security operatives to storm the area and residents alleged Amotekun corps of shooting at the hoodlums where two person were allegedly reported dead while one was taken to the hospital for treatment from gun shot injury.

 

The hoodlums, according to hospital sources, forced their way into the hospital to retrieve the body of the victim, who later died in the hospital.

 

The hoodlums, who were wielding different types of weapons, including cutlass, matchets, clubs, bottle, scared workers in the hospital forcing them to hide for cover.

An FCT High Court in Kubwa, on Wednesday, ordered an 18-year-old university student, Emmanuel Asebhofo, to clean Kubwa General Hospital for 60 days for internet fraud.

 

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Asebhofo had pleaded guilty to the charge of internet fraud filed by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and begged the court for leniency.

 

 

Delivering the judgment, Justice Kezziah Ogbonnaya, ordered Asebhofo to sign in and out daily after cleaning the hospital.

 

Ogbonnaya warned Asebhofo to desist from committing crimes and be of good behaviour.

A man, identified only as Kayode, has committed suicide after his neighbour’s daughter accused him of raping her twice at their house in the Oja-Amukoko area of Lagos State.

 

PUNCH Metro gathered that the victim’s mother, who had a stroke, was taken to the Ikorodu area for treatment.

 

The suspect, who was put in care of the 16-year-old at home, was said to have taken advantage of her.

 

Her father said she accused Kayode of raping her twice, adding that he also seized her phone to prevent her from informing her family members.

An 80-year-old identified as Saleh Bukar has been arrested by the Borno State Police Command for allegedly defiling an 11-year-old girl.

 

The Police Commissioner, Abdu Umar, said this on Wednesday, while parading Bukar and six other rape suspects at the command’s headquarters in Maiduguri.

 

Umar said that the victim’s elder sister, Fatima Ali, got to know about the incident, when she reportedly noticed an unusual discharge from the victim’s virgina.

 

According to him, the victim later opened up to Ali and alleged that Bukar had raped her on different occasions.

The Anambra State Police Command has busted the hotel camp where teenage girls are used as sex slaves.

 

About 35 teenage girls used for commercial sex slavery have been rescued with about five of them pregnant.

 

The girls were kept in the hotel where they were used to engage in commercial sex and the money paid to their “madam”, who is currently on the run.

 

 

The police also arrested three suspects, including the assistant manager of the hotel, and recovered three pump action rifles and seven cartridges.
