PROTEST : OSUN NLC TAKES SOLIDARITY PROTEST TO STATE ASSEMBLY



Organized Labour in Osun state  joined their counterpart throughout the 36 States of the federation demanding government to as a matter of urgency resolve the strike action embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities,ASUU. 

They made the call during a protest  to the State House of Assembly with the slogan " open our Universities today"

Speaking the Nigeria Labour Congress ,NLC, Vice chairman Osun State Comrade Gbadebo Awotayo said since 2009 the federal government made an agreement with ASUU but failed to fulfill the agreement. 

Comrade Awotayo emphasized that government at all levels should ensure proper funding of the Universities to guarantee better future for the Nigerian Students. 

Also speaking, the State chairman,Nigeria Union of Journalist, NUJ, Comrade Wasiu Ajadosu noted that it is a national disgrace for The Ivory towers to be closed for six months, stressing that the  development had jeopardize the productivity of the undergraduates. 

Also contributing, The Secretary Osun State University Alumni, Comrade Basit Olokuta called on the Assembly to see to the downward review of tuition fees of the institution which is too exorbitant for a common Man. 

Comrade Olokuta stressed that the students are at the receiving end of the strike action embarked upon by ASUU in the last six months. 

Responding, The Speaker, Osun State House of Assembly, Mr Timothy Owoeye who said the Assembly shared the plights of the Organized Labour, noted that President Muhammadu Buhari has given the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu two weeks Ultimatum  to resolve the crisis.

Mr Owoeye expressed the readiness of the assembly to meet with stakeholders with a view to reviewing  the tuition fees of Osun state university in the interest of the common Man. 

It would be recalled that the Accademic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU embarked on strike on 14th February this year to press home their demands.

OSIEC BILL 2022 PASSES THROUGH SECOND READING

 
Osun State Independent Electoral Commission ( OSIEC) bill 2022 and Osun State Local Government Area Creation and Administration Amendment no 5 has scaled through the second reading.

The two bills scaled through second reading at the plenary of the House of Assembly, Osogbo.

In Seperate contributions on Osun State Independent Electoral commission, bill 2022, the lawmakers noted that the bill would allow peaceful conduct of elections in the state.

They stressed that the bill if pass into law would pave way for free and fair election and enhance peaceful environment in the state.

They urged the house of assembly to give the bill accelerated passage for good people of the state.


Speaking on the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission ( OSIEC) bill 2022 , The Speaker who described the bill as a good policy for the local government administration in the state observed that the bill would put in place structure for democratically elected officers in the state.

He said that the bill would give legal backing to local government elections in the state.

Meanwhile, the House of Assembly dissolved into Committee of Whole for further consideration of Osun State Local Government  Areas Creation and Administration Amendment no 5 bill 2022 where every corrections and amendments to form part of the bill accordingly.

In his remark, Mr Owoeye made it known that the bill would pave way for Presidential system of government instead of Parliamentary.

He noted that the bill if pass into law would ensure separation of powers in Local Government Areas.
 
According to him, "This bill will put in democraty in place and good for local government administration".
"Is a way of strategies local democracy of the state" he added.

LABOUR PARTY ADVISES VOTERS TO SHUN VOTE BUYING

 
The labour party wants voters to shun vote buying during Osun Governiship Election scheduled for Saturday in order not to mortgage their future.


The national chairman of the party, Barrister Julius Abure and the Labour party presidential candidate for 2023 General Election,, Doctor Peter Obi made this position known in Osogbo at the party's mega rally in preparation for the Election.

The mega rally which was held at WOCDIF event centre, osogbo witnessed the presence of national executives of Labour party led by national chairman, Barrister Julius Abure.

Addressing party supporters and loyalists , Barrister Abure and the Labour party presidential candidate for 2023 general election explained that those buying votes had embezzled public funds and should not be trusted

They however said voters may collect such money as It's their money which had been wrongly channelled with a caution  not to allow the  money change their mind on their choice of candidate during election.

In his words , Labour party's candidate for Osun Governiship.election, Honorable Lasun Yusuf promised to change the fortune of the state with the dignity in labour and agriculture if given chance to govern the state..

Honourable Yusuf who promised.good health, sound education, prompt salary payment , women empowerment women  also said he would. establish data centers accross the state for proper planning.

He expressed pain that some people were seeing the gunmen attack on his residence as untrue saying he had committed such people to God's care for judgement.


In a remark, representative of TUC president, Mr  Martins Egbanibi said the labour was in support of the candidate as he was ready to bring succour to the workforce.

OSUN ELECTION: INEC HOLDS MEETING WITH STAKEHOLDERS


   


The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, says, it will conduct a free, fair, credible,inclusive and conclusive governorship election this Saturday  in Osun State.

The Chairman of the Commission, Professor Muhammud Yakubu who gave the assurance at a stakeholders meeting in Osogbo noted that such could only be achieved with the cooperation of the people.

Professor Yakubu announced that all non sensitive materials had been deployed to the 30 local governments of the State, while all the sensitive will be deployed accordingly.

The INEC Chairman also hinted that for the first ttime in Nigeria, People With Disabilities would be involved in election management as 35 corp members with Special needs would be working as adhoc staff as various stages of the election.

In line with the  global best practice of allowing citizens to have an input in the formulation of the budget, the State Government of Osun is organizing a Citizens' Consultative Forum on the 2023 Budget estimate across the three Senatorial districts of the state.

The forum which holds between  Monday and  Wednesday next week is put together by the Ministry of Economic Planning, Budget and Development to allow citizens have their  inputs  in the draft of the year 2023 estimates before being taken to the House of Assembly for passage into law.

According to a statement signed by the Commissioner for Economic Planning, Budget and Development, Prof. Olalekan Yinusa, the Adegboyega Oyetola administration expects only the needs of the masses to go into the State's budget, so as to let the people feel the impacts of government.

The forum holds  across the three Senatorial districts of the state comprising  Osun Central, Osun East and Osun West where residents are expected to meet with officials of the state government and say what they want to be included  in the budget.

The first leg of the  program commences on Monday at Osun Central Senatorial district with Osogbo hosting it while on Tuesday it will be the turn of  Osun West with Ejigbo as the venue.
    The last leg of the interactive session on the budget will be at  Osun East on Wednesday with the ancient city of  Ile-Ife as the host .


Expected at the citizens engagement across the three Senatorial districts include Council Chairmen, Council Secretaries, Council Managers, Selected local government staff, Market Men and Women.

Others expected at the programme which starts by 9 O'clock in the morning each day are Civil Society Organizations(CSOs), Religious leaders, Community Development Associations(CDAs) and Community Police Relations Committee(CPRC).

OSUN ASSEMBLY SCREENS COMMISSIONER DESIGNATES
Osun State House of Assembly today screened  some Commissioners and Special Advisers designates list sent to he House by the State Governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola in a letter dated 16th June. 

The nominees includes, Alhaja Latifat Giwa, Barrister Olubukola Olaboopo, Mrs Olanike Omoworare, Mr Sholagbde Oladepo, Mr Aliu Bakare and Doctor Bode Olaonipekun. 

The Deputy Speaker who doubles as the Chairman of the screening committee, Hon. Femi Popoola presided over the parliamentary said the nominees were capable of any position they are for assigned to , but the need to follow due process in line with the section 192 0f the 1999 Constitution which states that they should appear for screening before the Legislature. 

Hon. Popoola explained that the report of the committee would be given to the Speaker of the House , Mr. Timothy Owoeye for further procedure. 

The nominees promised to put in their best in any position the Governor Assign them.

Other members of the screening committee present includes,Mr Maruf Olanrewaju, Mr Gbenga Ogunkanmi and Mr Festus Komolafe.
