Osun community hails ILO for social intervention

Ibala Ijesa, a community in Obokun local government area of Osun State, has expressed utmost appreciation for the rehabilitation of 3 unit classroom block at Saint James Anglican School. 

The project was supported by the Osun State Steering Committee on Child Labour in collaboration with the International Labour Organization (ILO) through ACCEL Africa, Sponsored by the Government of Netherlands 

The Onibala of Ibala Ijesa, His Royal Highness, Oba Christopher Adegboyega Ariyo, on Wednesday, said the project will bring succour to the community. 

Oba Ariyo who was represented by Mr. Komolafe Ibrahim stressing that the community would forever be indebted to all that worked together to resuscitate the block and solicited  for enrollment of  students in school. 


The country Director for International Labour Organization (ILO), Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia and Sierra Leone Ms. Vannessa Phala, expressed her happiness over  the successul completion of the project.


"I am also very happy to open our newly renovated block and handed it over to the school teachers and the parents. These are great achievements for us. I'm sure working together with members of the community with the representatives of different ministries, members of the Child Labour, Steering Committee; we will do more.

"This is the most important intervention because it is about eliminating Child Labour. We need to work together to see that children stay in school. The community should try to patronize them so they can sell their products and really sustain their businesses in order to support their families."  

The ILO country Director assured  that  more similar developmental  works would be done in the community. 
Contributing , the National Project Coordinator for the ILO, ACCEL Africa Project in Nigeria, Agatha Kolawole said, the  project is  aimed  at eradicating  Child Labour in the area. 
*Here in Ibala we have been enrolled and support 50 children in school with uniforms, school bags, school sandals, notebooks, pens, textbooks among others. We also trained teachers" he said

In a remark, Osun State Controller of Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, Mrs Funmilayo Ayinla   stated that the rehabilitation project is tilt towards eradication of Child Labour in the state. 

"It's timely, highly commendable and to stop child labour. The children should not be hawking when they suppose to be in the classroom. 

"We also empowered the parents so they will be able to provide for these children," she said. 

Mrs. Abe Rachel Omolayo, the Head teacher in the school said project is commendable as well as timely. 

The beneficiaries appreciated the ILO and the Osun State Steering Committee on the elimination of child labour.

Empowerment equipment distributed included grinding machines, sewing machines, weaving machines, hairdressing, provision among others.

Amotekun Corps Nabs suspects for Looting Ekiti Airport


The Ekiti State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun Corps, has paraded four suspects for stealing and burglary in the state. 

Parading the suspects in Ado-Ekiti, the Corps Commander, Brig. Gen. Joe Komolafe (RTD), said the suspects were arrested at various areas of the state.

According to Brig. Gen. Komolafe, 32-year old Joshua Igoche and 31-year old Cletus Chinwe were arrested at the Ekiti New Cargo Airport for stealing Circular Machines and Circuit Motors meant for the contractors. 

He equally revealed that the other two suspects were arrested for burglary and possession of charms, bows and arrows at Omisanjana and Atinkankan areas of Ado-Ekiti. 

The Corps Commander added that the suspects would  be prosecuted by the Nigeria Police noting that the law that established Amotekun does not give them the powers to prosecute suspected criminals.

A GROUP OF MUSLIM WOMEN ADVOCATES GOOD GOVERNANCE IN NIGERIA


      


The need for good governance at all levels, has again been stressed.

The Amirah, Federation of Muslim Women's Association of Nigeria, FOMWAN,Osun State, Alhaja Sadiat Oladapo made the call during a courtesy visit to Osun State House of Assembly, OSHA.


Alhaja Oladapo emphasized that Government should focus more on sectors including, Health, Education and Human Empowerment for sustainable growth. 


She explained that the purpose of the visit was to celebrate the Speaker of the House who recently marked his 50th Birthday and to pray for Honorable Members and Staff of the Assembly .


Alhaja Oladapo who commended the House for their unflinching support for FOMWAN Osun retirated the commitment of the Religious Body to continue to support Government. 


In an address, The Clerk of the House, Mr Simeon Amusan appreciated the visit of members of Osun Fomwan and urged Religious Bodies to intensify prayer for the country on the menace of Insecurity.

Adeleke restates commitment to local government reform.


Osun State Governor-Elect, Senator Ademola Adeleke has restated his commitment to local government reforms to significantly guarantee well being and improved living conditions of Osun citizens at the grassroots.

Speaking while receiving sub-committees reports of his transition committee on Monday, Senator Adeleke described local governments as "the building blocks of good governance", positing that his administration will fulfil his electoral promises by ensuring true autonomy for the local government system.

"I want to commend the various sub-committees for the fantastic job. Let me restate here that local government reforms is so dear to my heart because of so many reasons.

"First, a strong local government system is the best way to ensure grassroots development. Two, poverty alleviation is largely a local matter. So local governments with required resources will speed up prosperity. More importantly, competition will become a new way among the council Chairmen.

"I remember those days when council Chairmen competed for commissioning of projects. Local elected leaders built roads, develop agriculture, markets and transport terminals. I look forward to the return of that era when council chairmen will fill the Governor's schedule with project commissioning ", Senator Adeleke stated.

He however promised that his administration will restore accountability and transparency in the operations of the local governments to block excesses and corruption.

"We will not support autonomy that encourages defrauding of the people. We will ensure that resources and responsibilities devolved to the local governments in line with the Constitution are handled in compliance with due process and anti-corruption laws", the governor-elect stated.

Transition Sub-Committees which submitted reports include Government Structure, Legislative Relations, Public Service, Local Governments and Workers' sector.

In their usual practice of turning the economic situation of the less privileged and rewarding people for commitment and dedication to the assigned responsibilities and chores, Senator Adenigba  Fadahunsi ‘s family has today empowerment materials  to some people.

The materials which came in form of a support from Mama Fada’s Women of Integrity MFWI  a pet project of the senator’s wife, Mrs Victoria Adeola Fadahunsi were distributed to selected people in Ife Ijesa senatorial district and coordinators of NFWI the across the district, especially, those who have been able to prove their mettle in performing their duties.

In his message on the occasion which took place at One Community, One Industry Cottage headquarters, Ibokun in Obokun Local Government Area, Mr Adeola Fadahunsi assured the people of the kind of gesture periodically, urging women to key into the aspirations and objectives of MFWI for their political social and economic emancipation. Represented by Mrs Victoria Oluwaseun, initiator of One Community, One Industry noted that the program is part of the out of legislative role of his husband, pledging to do more to reach many constituents.

She urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the material to up their economic status  rather than sell them off.

Two of the beneficiaries Mrs Gbadamosi Aderonke, the coordinator of MFWI from Ilesa West Local Government and Princess Adetunberu Yetunde, the coordinator of MFWI. and one of the beneficiaries from Oriade Local Government appraised our dear Chief Mrs Adeola Victoria Fadahunsi, the wife of the distinguished Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi for her show of love. Expressing  joy over  what they described as  a promise fulfilled stressing that senator Fadahunsi is a rare breed of politicians who never reneges on his promise.

POLICE ARREST FAKE ARMY CAPTAIN FOR ARMED ROBBERY


Detectives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a fake Army Captain, Andy Teddy Edwards, ‘m’ aged 39 for armed robbery.
  
The fake soldier, who posed as a modeling agent, would invite ladies for auditioning and then rob them of their cars and valuables at gun point. 

He was arrested following a painstaking investigation that was launched after one of his victims reported the robbery of her Lexus RX330 SUV. 

Further investigation led to the recovery of one Ford Edge SUV with registration number KRD 276 EG, one sewing machine, one POS machine with six SIM cards, two pairs of military camouflage uniform, one number plate - AFL 469 GD, in the suspect’s house. 

While investigation is being rounded off, the owner of the Ford SUV is hereby urged to come forward to claim same. Suspect would be arraigned at the conclusion of investigation. 

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Abiodun Alabi , fdc once again assures the good people of Lagos State of the unwavering commitment of officers and men of the Command towards annihilation of crime and criminality in the state.

Osun Govt announces appointments of four new traditional rulers




Osun State Government has announced the appointments of four new Obas in Ife East, Ejigbo West, Ife East Central, and Atakumosa East Local Government Areas.


According to a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation,  Funke Egbemode,  after the weekly Executive Council Meeting,  'the new appointments are Prince Samuel Oluwasegun Adedire as Obawara of Iwara-Ife in Ife East Local government; Prince Josiah Adeleke Oyewole Awolade as Olaaresa of Masifa in Ejigbo West LCDA, Chief Joseph Olubiyi Toriola as Ogunsua Modakeke in Ife East Central LCDA and Prince Adedeji Olusegun Isaiah as the Tirimi of Iperindo in Atakumosa East Local Government.'


 The stool of Obawara of Iwara-Ife  became vacant on August 12, 2018 following the death of  Olayiwola Adereti, the late Obawara of Iwara- ife. The Government received news of his  demise on November 1, 2018 and commenced the process of filling the stool.

 The chiefs unanimously selected Prince Samuel Olusegun Adedire as Obawara-elect. The choice was ratified by the Ooni of Ife who is the consenting authority to the stool through a committee set up for the purpose.


 The stool Olaaresa of Masifa in Ejigbo West LCDA became vacant on April 23, 2018 following the death of Dr. Mathew Olayiwola Oyekale. The stool is a recognised Chieftaincy to the Chiefs’ Law (Cap 25) Laws of the State of Osun 2022. The Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs  was informed on May 14,  2018 and promptly directed the local council to commence the succession process. On September 2,2021, the kingmakers voted and picked Prince Josiah Adeleke Oyewole Awolade as the Olaaresa of Masifa-elect.


The stool of Ogunsua Modakeke in Ife East Central LCDA became vacant following the death of Oba Moses Oladejo Oyediran on March 13, 2022 . The Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs was informed on March 17,2022 and directed the authorities of the council to inform the government whenever the burial rites of the late monarch are completed to kick start further necessary action. The eight kingmakers unanimously voted Chief Joseph Olubiyi Toriola next Ogunsua Modakeke. The Ooni of Ife has also given his consent to the appointment.


 The stool of Tirimi of Iperindo in Atakumosa East Local Government became vacant on 1st February, 2017 sequel to the judgement of the High Court  which set aside the appointment of Prince Joseph Folorunso Olowu Ifayemiwo. The Tirimi of Iperindo Chieftaincy is a recognized Chieftaincy to which Part II of the Chiefs’ Law (Cap.25),  Laws of the State of Osun, 2022 applies. The Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs was informed about the court judgement which set aside the appointment of Prince Joseph Folorunso Olowu Ifayemiwo, the deposed Tirimi of Iperindo on 7th September 2021. The ministry further inquired from the Ministry of Justice whether there is any pending litigation or appeal in respect of the judgment and the response was that there was no pending litigation going on. The authorities of Atakumosa East Local Government forwarded documents which showed that all the six kingmakers of Tirimi of Iperindo met on 18th November, 2021 where they’re selected Prince Adedeji Olusegun Isaiah as the Tirimi-elect.

The four appointments take immediate effect, according to Egbemode.

Angry mob kills a lone robber in iles


A middle age lone robber identified as Loni this morning met his untimely death following a mob action in Ilesa.
Loni, according to an eye witness account, was apprehended by vigilant residents and passersby at ireti Ayo while trying to  whisk away a motorcycle  he allegedly snatched from an unsuspecting bikeman in the area  in the late hours of yesterday..
Confirming the incident a police source at the Ayeso A’ divisional headquarters of the Nigeria police said the suspect whose body has been deposited at the morgue of the Wesley Guild Hospital Ilesa was a known unrepentant robber with many criminal records bothering on bike snatching.
Report indicates that the residents launched a manhunt for the lone robber after an intelligent gathering while revealed where he hid the motorcycle.
Loni was arrested when he came back to

NOTORIOUS THUG, OKO ILU ARRESTED



The Ede born suspected thug, Rasheed Hammed, popularly known as Rasidi Oko-Ilu , has been arrested.

Oko-Ilu who had been declared wanted by the Osun State Police Command over alleged various criminal activities, including murder was arrested on Saturday night at a hotel in Osogbo, Osun state capital.

Radio Nigeria learnt that it was the combined efforts of  men of the anti cultism unit of the Osun police command and members of Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) that led to his arrest. 

The police had over four months ago declared Oko-Ilu wanted for alleged murder, armed robbery, kidnapping and others.

He was alleged to have been terrorising Ede and its environs over the years.

Oko-Ilu  was declared wanted by the police for alleged murder, arson, ritual killing, among others.

A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr Yemisi Opalola  alleged that Oko-Ilu had been disturbing the peace of Ede.

Community takes decision on the land at Fadahunsi area , Ilesa on which a woman was gruesomely murdered last week.


Following the increasing spate of crime at the 'forest' behind the Babalola Memorial Grammar School  Ilesa in the recent times,  imo community has directed the school to  clear the   vast expand of land within seven days or forfeit it to the community.

Addressing members of the community including representatives of the school,the Onimo of Imo , ilesa , oba Olaniy Agunbiade  said the seven day ultimatum starts counting today, stressing that failure of the school to clear the forest by next Thursday will leave the community with no option than to bulldoze the trees and confiscate the land.

Oba Agunbiade expressed displeasure over susceptibility of his people to the  nefariousness of men of the underworld harboured by the Forest.
He recounted many instances when   women have been raped in the den of criminals .
The chairman of the school's PTA who represented  the school craved the indulgence of the community to extend the ultimatum by a week
Responding, the community youth leader, mr Seun Oluseye and other members of landlords and tenants association insisted that a week ultimatum was enough giving the palpable fear the recurring kidnapping and robbery incidence in the area have created in them.

University of Ilesa bill scales through second reading

The University of Ilesa, Osun State, Establishment Bill 2022 has scaled through it second reading. 

The motion was moved by the Majority leader,Mr Maruf Olanrewaju and seconded by the Chairman House committee on Educatuon, Mr Babatunde Ibirogba during plenary.
 

In separate remarks on the importance of the Bill, Members representating Ilesa - West -Mr. Wale Adedoyin, Egbedore - Mr Babatunde Ibirogba, Olorunda - Mr Kunle Akande, Ejigbo - Mr Adekunle Oyekunle and Obokun - Mr Adewumi Adeyemi noted that the Bill would provide framework that will regulate the powers and duties of the University Authority. 

They described Ilesa college of Education as one of the oldest Institutions in the State and called for accelerated passage of the Bill which would go a long way in providing more jobs for the unemployed, boost the Internally Generated Revenue, IGR of the State amongst other importance. 

The Sponsor of the Bill and the Speaker of the House,Mr Timothy Owoeye said the upgrading for Ilesa College of Education to University of Ilesa status  will not add additional burden to the State Government but would rather foster Economic Development of the State. 

The Speaker commended the members for their efforts towards making the Bill acceptable beyond Political Affiliations. 

The house later resolved to the committee of the whole for further consideration of the Bill.
