The ancient town of Oyo was on Monday besieged by thousands of supporters of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who stormed the town for the official flag off of its campaign in Oyo state.

The roads leading to the Oba Adeyemi Arcade, venue of the ceremony, witnessed usual vehicular and pedestrian movements.

Our Correspondent reports that the event was a four in one ceremony as it also featured the official presentation of party's flag to all it's candidates, a Zonal rally and the unveiling of the party's manifesto ahead of the 2023 General elections.

"For more than three years, all areas of governance in Oyo state have largely been kissing the canvas. From all indices, it is apparent our people, instead of enjoying dividends of democracy, are suffering from a government where institutional rigidity, exclusiveness, pervasive insecurity, policy summersaults reign supreme"

"With my robust administrative experience, unimpeded courage and strength of conviction, I am poised to invest in policies that will drive economic development, provide a sea of opportunities for the teeming populace, improve healthcare, agriculture, education and infrastructure so that our dear state can be an industrial hub".

Senator Folarin vowed to work with other critical stakeholders in the state to deliver 85% of votes for Tinubu-Shettima on February 25, 2023.

Ijesa leaders advocate smooth take off of University of Ilesa, urge unions to embrace dialogue

Academic and Non-Academic Staff as well as students of the defunct Osun State College of Education, Ilesa who still have   pending issues with the institution have been advised to engage the management of the University of  Ilesa  in dialogue rather than distorting the smooth take-off of the institution .

Leaders of Ijesaland made the appeal at a world press conference organized at the Óba Adekunle Aromolaran Civic Centre to demystify the  law creating the University.

Speaking against the purported plan to stand in the way of the smooth take off of the university, the Asiwaju of Ijesaland, Chief Yinka Fasuyi who spoke on behalf of the ijesas advised that  all outstanding issues such as Academic Staff Placement  within the new University system as well as the Peculiar and Hazard Allowances due to the Academic Staff  should be left for the new University administration to look into rather than the Academic Staff insisting that the University operations shall not commence until all outstanding issues  are fully met.

He expressed the belief of the Ijesa leaders  that with sincere dialogue by all parties moderated by the state government, the owner of the university, the matters would be resolved amicably.

“The good people of Ijesaland would want to continue to believe that all the Unions identified with the desire and interest of Ijesaland on the establishment of this University and will therefore want all their actions to be  benched marked against this understanding, hence, not Standing In the way of its Smooth Take-off “ he reiterated.

According to him, Ijesaland has suffered for over 30 years yearning for the University and it is the greatest legacy any administration in both Old Oyo State and current Osun State has ever bequeathed to us in Ijesaland.

“It is therefore heart gladdening to note that all the Students currently enrolled for NCE in the new University will be allowed to complete their respective studies within the same University campus. Provision has also been made for those Students who may wish to enrol for Bachelor’s Degrees after completing their NCE programme provided they meet the JAMB entry requirements. For the Academic Staff, more are still far required than the current number in the University. So, there’s no academic job threat for those qualified academic Staff. And for those academic staff without PhD, we are aware of the encouragement being put in place for them for continuous development. And for the Non-academic Staff, we have been assured that no single loss of job shall occur rather the emerging University shall even need more hands with time to feed several departments and faculties that would be springing up from the new University. “

He  commended the State Government and the University Implementation Committee for speedily and fairly responding to the above knotty issues within the period available.

“Since the berth of this innovative and creative institution that is conceived and designed to be a model for other Universities in no distance future in the areas of Entrepreneurial Development, Science & Technology, Agropreneurship, Mining, and Health Sciences, all stakeholders such as the host community in Ijesaland, the former Osun State College of Education, Ilesa, State Government of Osun, Osun State House of Assembly, Implementation Committee, and National Universities Commission(NUC) have all demonstrated uncommon enigma, passion, and high expectations through their rigorous commitment to the smooth take-off of this long awaited University in the heart of Ijesaland. “

Debunking the rumours making the round about  the university being  run on public private partnership basis, the Sawe of Ilesa, Chief Akinwande Akinola maintained that the university is solely owned by the state government

Chief Akinola stressed that the institution only enjoyed the generosity of the illustrious sons and daughters of Ijesaland who have no ulterior motives whatsoever.

“I personally donated 70 acres of land to the former college of education and facilitated the building of a world standard Library for the school and still feel like doing more without any personal gain”. Sawe said

He remarked that many world renowned professors of Ìjèsà extraction had offered to lecture at the University probono in line with the dream of the Planning committee to make the  school rank among the first ten best universities in the country.

Earlier, the Deputy chairman of the state House of Assembly Committee on Education, Hon. Wale Adedoyin encouraged the aggrieved unionists at the institution to sheath their swords and approach the lawmaking factory for redress and clarifications where necessary.

“We can still look into the gray areas and I can assure the unions that their interest will be salvaged” Adedoyin assured the aggrieved.

The conference was attended by representatives of clubs, societies and other stakeholders.

Ibadan-Lagos Express: Oyo govt engages vigilante groups, traditional leaders to tackle insecurity

In its bid to put an end  to incessant kidnappings along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, the Oyo State Government has resolved to involve traditional leaders and local vigilantes.
The vigilantes and other non-state actors will work with regular security agencies in order to arrest perpetrators of heinous crimes along the expressway.
Special Adviser on Security Matters to Governor ‘Seyi Makinde, CP Fatai Owoseni (rtd) made this known while briefing newsmen on the outcome of a stakeholders’ security meeting held at the Oyo State Security Trust Fund Office, Onireke, Ibadan.
Owoseni, who explained that the collaborations of the Oyo and Ogun state governments are already yielding positive results, noted that the governments of the two states have strengthened the security architecture on the Ibadan-Lagos expressway.
He said: "Sadly, we have had three incidents in one week cutting across, that made it to look as if the security agents are sleeping on their obligations but I must correct that impression. Before then, it was not as if measures and strategies were not put in place to curb any incident.
"The perception and the interpretation that has been given is that your community is insecure but it is not possible to have a totally crime-free society.
"Concerning the incidents we recorded about two weeks ago, a whole lot has been put  in place by the government to ensure that we give safety to commuters, not just on the Express road but the road that leads to Lagos and Abeokuta and some other parts of Oyo State.
“And that also was the reason why the governors of Ogun and Oyo States met to form Joint Security Committee. So, in essence, with what has happened, the interpretation of security will be that there must have been a gap.
"The criminal elements who are on the other side believe it is their profession and would probably must have noticed a gap that they can capitalise on, which would translate to what I can call 'opportunistic crime.'
“Having said that, we have looked back to see where we got it wrong and looked at the lesson. And that also explains why, for the past one week, jointly with Ogun State security team, we have formed a Technical Working Group. We have been sitting together to see what we can do to remain proactive.
“For now, we have strengthened visibility and also found out some certain things. We have taken a lesson from that to say that whatever that is put in place now will be something that is workable, practical, sustainable and that is where we are now.
"Is it that with the non-state actors that we are using, we have not been able to tidy up the framework with which we work for them? We have looked at that as well to improve the collaboration with the locals that know the nooks and crannies of the community.
"We have also looked at how we can optimise the use of the traditional institutions, the Baales in our areas including those that do business in the communities. "How much of relationship do they have with the traditional rulers in the said areas. 'Are they doing the necessary Corporate Social Responsibilities CSR? All these things matter.
"Yesterday, we had an interaction with the corporate Ibadan factories around that area to have a serious dialogue with them to say that what is it that we are doing, which can make people sell out in that area? And how can we also incorporate you properly into the state's security architecture? This is because investigations into the case pointed to the fact that some of the staffers are sell-outs.
“So, we have to close all the gaps and that is what we have been doing.”
Owoseni added that the governments of both states are working together to secure the axis, saying: "Ogun and Oyo states are working together strongly and fortunately for us, the governors of the two states recognise the need that whatever come out from the interactions we see doing, their own support is necessary.
“Security is expensive and funding is key to whatever we want to do. If you want to bring in the non-state actors, local hunters, if we are bringing them in, how much of motivation are we giving them? So, a these areas have been identified.
"We have reinvigorated our visibility on the road, deny the criminal elements the space to operate freely. We are going after the ones that have operated and bring them to justice. Philosophy in security is 'don't let it happen'. If it happens, let the people that do it know that you can get them and make them face the law'. So, we are approaching both ways.
“All the security agencies and commanders are working together and we have also used this to strengthen the synergy that all the agencies have. Anyone plying the road now will see static and mobile deployments.
"All the agencies are there; you have the Air Force, Army, Amotekun, Police, Civil Defence and elements of the covert operation on ground as well and they have the resources they can use in terms of logistics.
“So, we have just carried on from the interactions that the Technical Teams of the both states had last week and strengthening it. And in order to get the input of the locals, we met with the business entity and, today, we have also met with the traditional institutions and explored the areas where technology will be deployed.
"The eyes of the people are stronger than the CCTV and the drones because the technology may show you this is the place but will it also show you how you will navigate to the place; the topography, terrain? Those things are very important. Apart from the technology, we are also trying to leverage on what we have on ground and we hope that everyone recognises the fact that they must support the efforts of government on this."
In his contribution, the chairman, Oluyole Local Government, Hon. Settle Olaide, said  that the government has actually put a lot of security strategies in place to make sure Oluyole LG and its environs, is policed effectively..
Speaking on behalf of the traditional leaders in Oluyole Local Government, Baale Omi Aboderin Village, Baale Olukunmi Egbelade, said that the  meeting was organised  to discuss how the security will be tightened in Oluyole Local Government.
"We are here to discuss how security can be tightened in Oluyole Local Government. This baffles our mind. With this meeting, we expect that there will be progress very soon.
"We are also happy about the recent development, bringing together the two states involved - Oyo and Ogun. We cannot do this in isolation because we are very close to each other."

OYO APC ACCUSES GOV. MAKINDE OF IMPROPER HANDLING OF SECURITY MATTERS

The All Progressives Congress, APC in Oyo State, has advised the State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde to stop paying lip service on the issue of security in the state.

The advice is contained in Ibadan signed by the party's publicity secretary, Mr Olawale Sadare.

The Oyo APC claimed that the lack of political will on the part of the State Governor was responsible for the recent criminal activities in the state

"He has not been able to show the world that he is capable of solving the myriad of problems facing the state particularly as this concerns insecurity, environmental degradation, youth unemployment, falling standard of economy, infrastructural deficit among others.

"The situation is made worse by Gov. Makinde's penchant for globetrotting and dereliction of duty since he prefers holidaying abroad and hibernating in Port Harcourt, Rivers state more often than not as it pleases him. It would have been better if the governor stay more at home and acquaint himself with details of happenings across the state on hourly basis. Worse still, Gov. Makinde does not have confidence in his imposed local government Chairmen who he recently accused of mismanaging security votes released to them.

"For some weeks now, there have been daily reports of of armed robbery and kidnapping on Ibadan-Ijebu-Ode and Ibadan-Lagos Expressway while governor's of Ogun and Lagos states have responded well, their counterpart in Oyo state was nowhere to be found as we have it on good authority that Gov. Makinde is in the United States for no reason other than tourism and junketing. The best he (Makinde) could from abroad was to intervene in matter involving the police and Mukaila Lamidi (Auxiliary) who has been fingered in many cases of billboard vandalism and harassment of residents of the state in recent times.

"Without mincing words, the daunting problem of insecurity in the nooks and crannies of Oyo state would be drastically addressed if Gov. Makinde decide to take the bull by its horn. First, he should established the necessary synergy with other stakeholders including all the security agencies and also stop treating the menace of miscreants with kids' glove. It is high time the governor was made to realize that no government can fight invading criminals successfully while keeping and indulging thugs and miscreants for locally for political engagement and ego massaging." Oyo APC said.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo state has described the allegation made by the camp of Governor Seyi Makinde that it (APC) was planning to burn down the state office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as false and misleading.

The Reelection Campaign Organisation of Gov. Makinde said, in a statement issued at the weekend, that it had uncovered a plan by the major opposition party in the state to carry out coordinated attacks on the INEC's state headquarters located very close to the Governors Office in Agodi Secretariat, Ibadan.

But in a swift reaction contained in a statement issued on Monday and made available to journalists in Ibadan by its Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, Oyo APC expressed concerns and disappointment over what it described as "anti democratic behavior which deserves proactive measures from all the relevant stakeholders and patriots.

"Providence has just done the desirable thing for the good people of Oyo state as it caused the PDP elements to reveal their true color. We could have ignored the merchant of blackmail on their puerile claim of arson plan but we felt a need to put it on record that APC does not have any reason whatsoever to sponsor attacks against individuals and public facilities (including INEC offices) as it is not in our character or idiosyncrasy to destroy or sabotage. The only change which has come into the way we do things is that we shall not continue to watch helplessly while some violent characters hound and victimise our members and property as electioneering get underway”

Sadare indicated that as a matter of fact, the divinely-induced revelation coming from the camp of Oyo PDP should not be taken with a pinch of salt as parties and candidates prosecute their electioneering ahead of the 2023 election.

It adds that It is highly imperative for security agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders and other stakeholders as well as patriots and friends of Nigeria to collaborate and ensure that no individual or group of individuals is allowed to truncate the electoral process for selfish gains.

* The people of Oyo state deserve their peace and all agents of violence must be put to check or caused to be demobilised by their sponsors." Sadare stated.
